The Army Open House was held over a period of 5 days from 30th August to 3rd September 2007, which means weekend burned. Before the actual showdown, we were given half day off to recharge. During these five days, we had to fall in as early as 6.15am to proceed to Pasir Laba Camp and only return to nest at 10pm. Everyone was complaining of tiredness and it was disturbing to wake up so early.

My job at this year AOH was to monitor the public feedbacks or complaints so that higher authorities can act to it quickly via wireless. This is my first time using wireless in SAF camps, cos it is not a practice to do so as intruders can tap into the system easily. That’s why till not we are still doing manually configurations and laborious LAN connecting during a Command Post setup. And the wireless they were using was the M1 Broadband and I have problem connecting to internet at level 4 since I am some distance away from the hotspot. Even at the hotspot, I faced problem accessing to some webpages.

Guess what, throughout the five days, I did not receive any emails. Reason, the CO, 2SIR, printed the wrong email in the brochure which was distributed in the goodie bags. On the first day, I had problems logging in and I contacted my OC. The login ID given was visitors from secondary and tertiary students plus servicemen from some units. The general public turnout was disappointing. What I heard was 130 schools agreed to pararmyopenhouse@yahoo.com.sg, and after seeking clarifications with the CO, 2SIR, it was supposed to be armyopenhouse2007@yahoo.com.sg. No choice, he had to quickly get his men make the amendments.

The first two days was filled with ticipate but only less than 20 schools came. Ha, disappointing right. Even for NSFs who were present, they spent less than 30 minutes walking around and silently sneak out.

As for the weekends, the response was great as MediaCorp celebrities were present, for instance, Felicia Chin, Tay Ping Hui, Nat Ho, Ix Shen and Pierre Png, the main casts of Honour and Passion spread over the two days. Fireworks (real one) were lighted up in the skies in the evening to mark 40 years of National Service. Monday’s turnout was shocking with was equivalent to the weekends’ ratio. It’s school holidays and daddies and mummies are bringing their kids out. It was Family Day on Monday for the Army and we had KFC and MacDonalds for lunch and dinner respectively.

On the same night, we tore down whatever lines that were laid previously and returned the following day to collect back the stores to camp.

  • I may look ‘beng’ or ‘dao’, but I am actually an extrovert. Time will tell, I can yack non-stop, crap and express myself with the weirdest examples. I am crazy, but thats the way to distress ma. Being original, simple and honest are my primary goals in life, and I hate hypocrites and pretentious people. So devils, please stay away from me.

Backed in primary school, some catastrophe happened and that changed my goals in life. Well, I am working very hard for that ‘paper’ and that bright and promising future. $$$. I want to prove all those who have looked me down. I want to fight for that future!

“A promise made, will be delivered. And I hope for the same repayment” ...Come try me!

I have met some of my most important friends in life - god-send angels. I am grateful for their supportive and encouraging advices. We will work hard.

This is me, welcome to my world!
