Swapped my COS duty on Monday with Gavin and headed straight to Jurong Camp to reinstall my HA server. Reached there around 11am and waited for Panna to transfer some files on his server before he shuts down to hand it over to us for the next three days. It was only at around 3pm we took over the server and booted up our C drive and started our installation. However, don’t know if its our hard disks that were faulty or the CDs that we spoilt. We changed different hard disks and used CDs from 3 Signals and 21 Signals for the initial installation but it was just against out will (somehow). It was at around 6.30pm, we manage to start our installation proper with the correct prompts and smooth running of the installations for the server CDs and the Windows 2000 advanced server CD. The whole process was successful and we worked shifts throughout the night between me, Bernard and Bo Hong. Before the installation of Ra***n at 4am, I launched the SQL server and it was working perfectly and I asked Bo Hong to carry on his part. When I woke up at 6am, after the final CD installation, the SQL server could not start and we were disheartened. We called Vanessa and she came down to help. She fixed the problem and next was the Ra***n could not start. Small issue but it took two hours to solve. Thank you, Vanessa and Zhi Ying who came all the way from Ah Mo Quey area (DSTA) to Jurong Camp with one call.

It took us 13 hours to install, almost breaking 3 signals record of 12 hours. However, the post installation took another 1-2hours and the troubleshooting to fix the problems took another half a day. We decide to mirror the image created so that should one fail, we will run the other array of hard disks. I have backed up my S Drive which is my exercise data. Instead of having 2x S Drive (one actual, one mirrored), I have copied another duplicate to E Drive, thus making another two duplicates. Also, I have another set in my MMT external hard disks. It’s better to be conservative.

Wednesday, we headed to Jurong camp again. I booted up the server to test to see if it was working and waited for the BALO (brigade air liaison officer) from Sembawang Air Base to do a hook up with up before we packed and rest till we fly to Taiwan.

Thursday, I returned to camp and did my COS duty. Looking back, my last COS duty was 18 January 2008, that was almost three months ago. It was quite a busy day. The morning was lonely as no one was in the office but in the afternoon, I received Vanessa and Zhi Ying for the Ra***n Course that I arranged for the whole platoon. Asked someone to stand-in and I went for the course for 2.5 hours. Very enriching. That was when I realized that how much I have learnt (IT knowledge) in this one year as a system administrator while nodding my head with those points delivered. When we thought we will be rest till High Noon, Vanessa thought we should do a email directory replication again in Singapore. I had to make arrangements with 3 signals again to go down to do a rep. This time, I sent Bo Hong and had Zhi Ying to supervise the whole process. Everything went smoothly and finally we had our hard disks sealed.

Stores are all collected. Everything seems to be in place. Now, it’s the execution and I am rather worried as it seems that everything in IS is depending on me. I have slight high blood pressure (probably because of the three weeks running about camps and settling IS-related issues). I am worried about work and have neglected health. Well, I have to tone down and delegate more work to my under-studies. It is amazing to see how a platoon of me and Borg grow to a 15-men platoon. I just can’t imagine how me and Borg survive during the old days.

  • I may look ‘beng’ or ‘dao’, but I am actually an extrovert. Time will tell, I can yack non-stop, crap and express myself with the weirdest examples. I am crazy, but thats the way to distress ma. Being original, simple and honest are my primary goals in life, and I hate hypocrites and pretentious people. So devils, please stay away from me.

Backed in primary school, some catastrophe happened and that changed my goals in life. Well, I am working very hard for that ‘paper’ and that bright and promising future. $$$. I want to prove all those who have looked me down. I want to fight for that future!

“A promise made, will be delivered. And I hope for the same repayment” ...Come try me!

I have met some of my most important friends in life - god-send angels. I am grateful for their supportive and encouraging advices. We will work hard.

This is me, welcome to my world!
