Although Ex. Highnoon 2008 was just a 10-day outfield episode, preparation started as early as January. It also highlights the debut of mobile CP and intensive forces tracking. As a system administrator, I am responsible for the heavy-duty server and it may stretch to become a heavy burden on myself. The integrity of the server may spell success or failure for the planning of the exercise.

Soon, the departure gates welcomed us to Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Being on the advanced party on the 9th April with my Ivan, we unloaded the stores, did all the pre-exercise configurations and performed a system hook up. The scorching sun burnt away rumours of chilling weather that we had in our minds before landing. After strenuous hours out in the sun shifting crates and crates of stores, I had myself sunburnt and off to a bad start personally. Three days later, my reinforcements arrived to Pao Li Camp, we proceeded with two connectivity exercises before XHN.

In a flash, 21st April arrived. It was time to move out to concentration area. The 250km route taxed on our asses. The first setup fell below our expectations with plenty of hiccups.
After five days at concentration area, we displaced. As it was dark and visibility was poor, laying of cables between the CPs was challenging. For most of us, it was our first time setting up a CP in darkness. As usual, problem arises. Our server’s UPS failed and had to power it through a bypass. Before we could take a breather, the weather changed for the worst and our CP got flooded. To facilitate better comms, we displace again. The setup was challenging because of the space constraint. The location of our SSD and VSAT were across the road, thus we had to lay long cross cables and even overhead cables across the road. In less than 24 hours, we tore down and traveled eight hours back to camp.

It was labour day and we were the labours sending arms and stores, packing our crates, amazingly, everyone finished packing at around 4pm. Afterwhich, we had our end-of-frame dinner with tonnes of good food to replenish back all the losses we had for the past twelve days outfield. We slacked, slacked, visited the ninja van, ate chong you pin, ji pa and zhu pa almost everyday.

After so many days of slacking, RnR finally arrived. At around 9.30am, we boarded the coach and checked in to Evergreen Hotel. Not bad, I was impressed. The rooms were spacious (with at least three beds each) and clean – average 3-star hotel. I was grouped with fat Allan to Room 1008. We started our shopping spree at around 3pm. We went President Departmental Store, Sogo, Urban Spotlight (bugis street), Hanshin Departmental Store, Liuho Night Market.

Brought around NT8,000, spent most of it on food and half on gifts and clothes. Personally, the stuff there are quite expensive except for the sport apparels and goods which were generally cheaper probably because of the discounts that we ongoing along the entire street. In less than 27 hours, we checked out our room and head back to Gaoshiung International Airport for our flight at 9.05pm - BR1281. It was only at 7 May, 1.30am I stepped out of the arrival gate.

  • I may look ‘beng’ or ‘dao’, but I am actually an extrovert. Time will tell, I can yack non-stop, crap and express myself with the weirdest examples. I am crazy, but thats the way to distress ma. Being original, simple and honest are my primary goals in life, and I hate hypocrites and pretentious people. So devils, please stay away from me.

Backed in primary school, some catastrophe happened and that changed my goals in life. Well, I am working very hard for that ‘paper’ and that bright and promising future. $$$. I want to prove all those who have looked me down. I want to fight for that future!

“A promise made, will be delivered. And I hope for the same repayment” ...Come try me!

I have met some of my most important friends in life - god-send angels. I am grateful for their supportive and encouraging advices. We will work hard.

This is me, welcome to my world!
